Readymades-
The gesture of creating "readymades" marked a revolution in art history by refusing the idea that art could only be unique and original pieces of carefully crafted painting or sculpture to be looked at.
With the readymade, Duchamp proposed that the creative act was in the selection of the object and in its transfer from everyday life to the art world- through the signature of the artist, its title, and its diplay in an art institution.
